A Special Note to All Visitors
This topic interests me because of the fact that I will be working with teens in my near future. Working inside a school is where you’ll find all instances of the different types of bullying. Bullying doesn’t need to be just physical in nature. It can be emotionally deterring as well. Other forms of bullying, in this day and age with media, is cyber bullying.
Another reason of interest I have on this topic is because we all know someone who’s been a victim of bullying. Not many people know about this about me, if any, but when I was a freshman in high school I was picked on hard core. I didn’t even know those repeat offenders who kept picking on me. I was the average looking freshman, but maybe it was the fact that I was a freshman that led to my unfortunate events. One day, which I will never forget, I was walking through the hallway and a group of these students were snickering while walking by me and threw something at me. It got stuck in my hair and when I pulled it out I realized it was a condom. This was embarrassing for me because so many people saw it and were laughing at me. I walked to the bathroom and cried after that because I didn’t understand why they were doing stupid stuff like that to me. Instances like these, though physically not harmful, are what makes me want to see a change in school. I don’t want to see students go through unfortunate events like that. If that happened to someone different things could’ve escalated into something much worse and that’s not something that any teacher wants to see.
During my DASA training it was mentioned that bullying can be in the simplest of forms of just-those people who you thought were your friends not associating with you because you didn’t make the team, or because you don’t have the money to dress like them. The sad thing about it is it happens most days than not. That is why it is so important to have the proper knowledge and training to prevent this from occurring. If people are more educated on this, and given that information when they are young and have it reinforced throughout their lives, think of how much better of a world we can live in. This isn’t some overnight change that I’m talking about. This is a change that will take decades upon decades to achieve. No, not everyone will care about it, or think what they’re doing is even wrong, but bullying in any form is wrong. The more we educate people on this, the better they can become.
I’m not sure what people will take from my website, but I hope that I’ve at least caused a stir in your heart to want to see a change in teen bullying. I want to advocate for all those students who’ve been a victim, and even those who are the bully’s. There is a reason why people do what they do. Prevention efforts made can help those on both sides of the game. I hope that while going through my site you’ll get a better understanding on the subject and see why it is important to be educated on teen bullying, and hope that you will join prevention efforts that may come your way.
